Frequently Asked Questions

1:1 Coaching & Mentoring FAQs

What’s the difference between coaching & mentoring?

Coaching:

Coaching is a client-driven, yet deeply collaborative process guided by powerful, thought-provoking questions. It aims to help individuals gain deeper insight into the thoughts, emotions, values, and beliefs influencing their goals and challenges. By fostering self-awareness and personal accountability, coaching empowers clients to take ownership of their growth, development, and problem-solving.

Mentoring:

Mentoring is a relationship-based approach where professional experience, skills, and knowledge are drawn on by the mentor to offer useful guidance and advice. It provides a supportive framework of shared expertise to help individuals explore opportunities, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals with the benefit of real-world insights.

In both cases:

  • A core purpose is achieving accelerated growth
  • There is an ongoing discovery to uncover and define root causes and motivations around goals, opportunities, and challenges
  • Clients set the agenda topics
  • We (coach and mentor) come in with an understanding that your experience, situation, mindset, background, and human characteristics are unique. Because of that, we approach and engage in each session without any set agenda, expected outcomes, or assumptions.
  • A commitment from both parties exists to continually explore drivers and blockers that will assist in shaping new strategies and/or plans to support progress.

Emerging Trails’ Coaching Approach

Every session is tailored to your unique needs and goals. While my methodology is grounded in “coaching-first” practices to encourage self-reflection, growth and accountability, mentoring naturally comes into play when requested, offering practical advice and insights to supplement your development.

What is the time commitment involved?

A minimum of three (3) months and 6 (six) sessions is recommended to see meaningful progress, and Coaching Agreements will follow these terms.
It’s important to give yourself the grace of time in breaking through barriers and make forward progress against the outcomes you articulate, which often evolve as sessions unfold.

What is the investment for 1:1 coaching?

Our coaching partnerships start at $200 per session, which includes the 1:1 plus between-session support (brief async check-ins, quick reviews of action items, etc.). Final structure and cadence are customized during your introductory session based on your goals.

Organizational coaching partnerships and consulting services are priced separately based on scope and cadence.

What happens between sessions?

You’ll usually leave sessions with a small set of practical actions or reflections to try. Nothing overwhelming — just the next right step. We’ll review what worked, what didn’t, and what we’re learning each time we meet.

Internal Organizational Coaching FAQs

What role does the manager play?

Managers help co-create goals with the employee, provide relevant context, and support progress between sessions. They don’t sit in on coaching conversations, but they do stay engaged through employee-led check-ins and a formal midpoint check-in, so growth is reinforced consistently.

What stays confidential, and what gets shared?

Coaching conversations are private and individualized. What is shared: goals, themes, and progress. The employee is empowered to share regular updates in their 1:1s with their manager, and the organization and coach remain aligned through 3 formal checkpoints throughout the engagement.

What is the time commitment involved?

We require a minimum of three (3) months and 6 (six) sessions, but six (6) months and twelve (12) sessions is recommended in this joint collaboration to give ample time for 1:1s, 3-way check-ins, and measure progress against business impacted goals. Our mutually agreed upon Coaching Agreement will follow these terms.

What is the investment for Internal Organizational Coaching?

In collaboration with the organization, we establish a flat rate upfront, which encompasses the three (3) standard meetings (two all-party, one between the Company and Coach), summary report, a set amount of 1:1 coaching sessions per employee, and any ad hoc sessions requested. Once the number of participating employees and session cadence are set in the introductory phase, we confirm the flat rate, factoring in volume and any prepaid pricing.

Account Services & Delivery Operations Consulting FAQs

What problems does this consulting solve?

Common challenges include inconsistent client experience, unclear roles or handoffs between teams, reactive delivery, rising churn, or account managers feeling stretched without structure. We help teams replace ad-hoc processes with clear systems, expectations, and communication cadences that support confident, predictable client delivery.

What deliverables will we receive?

Deliverables often include a current-state assessment, clarified roles and responsibilities, updated workflows or playbooks, client-journey recommendations, and a sustainability plan to support long-term adoption. You’ll also receive session summaries and guidance your team can immediately put into practice.

How long do engagements usually take?

Most organizations begin with a 3-4 month foundational phase that includes assessment, recommendations, and early implementation. Larger or more complex teams may continue into a 5-6 month support phase to embed new processes and capabilities. All timelines are tailored to your needs and pace.

What is the investment for Consulting?

Every team’s needs are different, so we set pricing after our early scoping sessions. You’ll always know the full scope and investment upfront, and we won’t begin work until everything is aligned on both sides.

General FAQs About Emerging Trails Services

Are services provided virtually or in person?

Most 1:1 sessions are virtual, which makes it easier to fit into real schedules and real life. If you’re local to one of us, and an in-person session makes sense, we can talk about that as an option.

What is a Connection Snapshot?

Connection Snapshots are used to kickoff our coaching partnerships. It’s a short questionnaire that asks you to reflect and share your:

  • professional journey
  • vision & core values
  • motivators & stressors
  • experiences with feedback and coaching
  • personal attributes and current state (acknowledging the overlap between professional and personal lives that influence decision-making and fulfillment)

These insights fuel productive collaborations and more tailored outcomes.
